Professional Development Opportunities

Since 1978, NCCJ has provided high-quality, engaging, impactful programming for workplaces on diversity, equity, and inclusion. These sessions can be delivered through both virtual and in-person formats. NCCJ encourages small group engagement during these sessions in order to provide workplaces the opportunity to begin difficult conversations and support individuals in continuing the conversations beyond the training series as they return to work.

We are excited to give organizations throughout Dayton and the Miami Valley the opportunity to experience one of NCCJ's interactive professional development offerings.

Up to two leaders from your organization to join NCCJ as we present Pivot Thy Neighborhood - a highly interactive session which explores the ways that our physical environment impacts individual outcomes. Through the session, individuals will understand how the level of access individuals have to resources can directly impact their quality of life, health, and career outcomes.

Pivot Thy Neighborhood has been presented to industries ranging from academics, to mental healthcare, to business professionals, and more.

Diversity 101 - Four Part Series

One of NCCJ's most sought after professional development offering is our Diversity 101 Four Part Series. This interactive series dives in to understanding our own biases, and how we as individuals and agencies can support a more inclusive organization. Learn more below.

Implicit Bias: Understanding Multicultural Diversity

Through the use of small and large group discussion, the first session in the four part series helps participants understand where their implicit biases come from, why they exist, and what they can do to address them.

Participants will:

be able to define implicit bias
be able to identify at least 1 cause of their implicit biases
be able to identify 2 ways that institutional bias can affect oppressed groups

Inclusive Leadership

Everyone has the ability to be an inclusive leader and help others feel welcomed. In the second session of NCCJ's DEI series, participants will learn the benefits of creating an inclusive environment and be challenged by recognizing the importance of creating space for brave conversations.

Participants will:

be able to identify at least 2 ways to create an inclusive and equitable work environment
be able to identify 6 traits of an inclusive leader
be able to identify 2 ways to respond to challenging conversations

Understanding Privilege and the Responsibility of Being an Ally

What privilege do you carry in your backpack? The third session in the DEI series will help participants identify how privilege may unknowingly play a role in their life experience, and participants will discuss how they can use privilege to create a more level playing field for all.

Participants will:

be able to define privilege
be able to identify at least 2 privileges receive
be able to identify 2 ways to be an active ally

Social Change: Where Do I Fit?

On what side of history do you fit? The final session in this series will prepare individuals to address current social movements, advocate for racial equity, and help bring about change in their communities.

Participants will:

be able to identify 3 ways to bring about community change
be able to identify at least 1 leadership role that aligns with their skills
be able to identify 2 reasons that self-care is important
